Ill Communication

Just got the news that my favourite Beastie Boy, Adam Yauch-MCA- has cancer of the salivary gland.
First read it in the Age but my friend, Marlene sent me a link from undercover.com.au- here's the article;
Adam Yauch From Beastie Boys Diagnosed With Cancer by Paul Cashmere - July 21.
Adam Yauch from Beastie Boys fame has announced that he is suffering from a cancer. Yaunch made the announcement via a YouTube video, apologising to fans for having to cancel the upcoming Beastie Boys tour and postpone the release of the new album.
From his studio in New York, Adam said, “Unfortunately we are going to have to cancel a bunch of our shows and push back our record release because recently, about two months ago I started feeling this little lump in my throat like you would feel if you have swollen glands. I didn’t think it was anything but just recently when we were over in Europe I started to think I should talk to my doctor. So I called my doctor, this was about two weeks ago and he sent me to a specialist and they did tests and I have a form of cancer. It is in a gland called the parotid gland and it is also in a lymph node right in that area. So I am going to have to have surgery, probably next week and then after that have some radiation done”.
He says there is an upside to the news. It is treatable. “The good news is that they did scans in my whole body and it is localised in this one area and it is not is a place that effects my voice. It is a little bit of a setback, it is a pain in the ass, but it is treatable and in most cases they are able to get rid of it,” he said.
Despite the bad personal news, Yauch made an apologetic statement to fans for not being able to tour. “I apologise to anybody who has made plans and who decided to come to these shows. I apologise for anyone who has put themselves out with their schedules,” he said.

All the best Adam. You have the tools of buddhism to get you through mentally and a legion of long time Beastie Boys fans who wish you nothing but the best of health and happiness.

Hey I have been on training yesterday so back in action today.

No good on the B-Boys. The gig they did with Helmet in about 1997 at Festival Hall was one of the (if not the best) gig I have ever been to.

That gig was actually in 94 and I was there too! It was sooo amazing.
I've seen the Beasties about 8 times now!
Glad to have to back DB...

Shit 94.. really? Wow time flies. It was an amazing gig, even withteh guy getting hit by the truck afterwards on Dudley Street.

I was down on the floor but right up the back in front of the mixing desk. The gig was great as Helmet are my all time fav band. Still play Meantime on high rotation through the collection.

I have seen the Beastie Boys probably 3 times. Blown away each time.

Helmet had that rockin tune of which I never remember the name of- do they have a song called In The Meantime? Did they have an album called Betty? Great band-good energy.
Beasties- good value every time.

Oh gawd MM - A rockin hot chick who knows Helmet.... wow.

Yep the main album they had was Meantime and the sinlges were "Unsung" and "in the Meantime". Betty was the follow up album and came out in a blue plastic cover.

The were great because they played live like they did on their albums.

'A rockin' hot chick"... hmmm. think I've got the wool pulled over your eyes!!

Oh i dont know about that MM. If you know who Helmet are and know single name, album names and have seen them live you are pretty hot to me!

I've also seen Shakin' Stevens live so I don't know if that makes me credible.

Ha really?
Wow. Well I am in a TISM video from the Collingwood town hall. Well my sillouette is.
First time I saw Helmet was at the big day out in 93 I think it was.

Lola Lopez said...

Now that's cool. I love TISM.. have seen them so many times and they never failed to disappoint. Ron Hitler Barassi has a new band called ROOT. Would like to check them out sometime.

Yep, I have seen them about 20 times I reckon. Great Melbourne band.

How haven't I bumped into you at these events?

Collingwood Town Hall is an interesting band venue. I went and watch Fugazi there once as well.

Lola Lopez said...

Ah Ian Mackaye... a very serious man. Were you into Minor Threat and the Teen Idols as well?
Never saw Fugazi or anything Ian Mackaye was in.
Have seen his bestie Hank Rollins many times though.

ooohhhhhh... MM sounds like you have some of my cd collection! never got into minor threat or teen idols.

Lola Lopez said...

Me neither but I've heard a bit of their stuff and I like.
I googled them and realised it should be 'Teen Idles'.. my bad.

dam buster said...

Ah don't worry about it. I will forgive you.

Lola Lopez said...

Thank you.
I had to punish myself by eating my body weight in Darrell Lea licorice.
But your forgiveness now sets me free.. bless.

oh dear.. I hope you survive the overload of it. That stuff can do nasty things to you, you know.
your welcome.

I'll just make sure I don't do any pogo dancing in the next 2 days!
